Anchor Bay Tile has recently come out with a new tile product using bamboo.  Normally, bamboo is a popular product choice in countertops, but is now designed into subway tiles.  This sustainable wood is cut into 3 by 6 inch tile pieces.  It’s harvested in Moso species bamboo and is both extremely strong and renewable.  This is a great idea for kitchen backsplashes and wainscoting or to add a creative design element on an accent wall.  The bamboo tile comes in four different finishes – Autumn Blush, Chestnut (shown right), Ebony and Natural.

Cork? Used as flooring?  Sounds very... unique, right?  Well yes, it's unique, but a very smart choice when picking out new flooring for your remodel.  Its uniqueness makes it a wonderful way for you to contribute in being environmentally conscious.

Cork is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and natural. The thermal insulation properties of the material help lower the use of energy to heat and cool your home, saving you money.  Beside the benefits it can bring in "going green" it has the ability to reduce sound transmission and vibration because of its complex structure, making it a perfect sound insulator.  It also, is a shock absorber, helping to prevent back and joint pain. The benefits of using cork in your home go on and on!

There are several companies in the US and Canada that produce this amazing material.  It comes in many different styles and colors.  There are ways of adding red highlights to a pattern or picking out any solid color you like.  The design possibilities are endless!  Not only used for flooring, it can be used as a wall surface, like in the photo shown here.  The cork covered wall adds much more than what just a splash of paint could do for the room.

Counter tops are the eye catching feature of every bathroom and kitchen... or it should be!  One of the most popular products in countertops is granite and marble.  But have you ever heard of Cambria?  Cambria is a natural quartz surface that is actually a stronger material due to its nonporous surface.  In addition to its strength and durability, it is the safest surface available for preparing food, which is why it is certified by NSF International - there is no other surface as safe as Cambria available for your kitchen!

The maker of this beautiful quartz material has recently introduced 21 new colors across three collections.  Every color is named after a location in England or Wales where the Cambria family originated.  The color featured here, New Brighton, has the beauty of onyx and can be backlit for a luxurious look.

The bus trip was a little long, but it was great to spend time with some of my fellow contractors.

As you can see from the photo above, it was a huge convention with every imaginable style of tile and solid surface product.

My goal was to learn about the latest thing in stone products for kitchens and especially bathrooms.
I have had many homeowners ask if there is a way to have a quality shower without all the grout. I had heard there was a new travertine and marble product that would be a great solution for people who don't like the maintenance of grout.

The stone comes in large sheets that can be custom cut at the job-site to create any number of beautiful shower features as well as numerous other applications.

The product is called ForzaStone. I was very impressed with the display showers I inspected at the show. It is real stone that will not fade or discolor over time. It is !00% sealed and waterproof and requires minimal cleaning. The stone panels come as large as 48 x 96 inches in both travertine and marble.

I expect that we will be installing many of these showers now that we have a supplier for the stone. If a shower without the bother of grout is in your future give us a call.

Its been a week sense we got back from our trip to the Wellborn Cabinet manufacturing plant in Alabama.

It was worth the time to see the quality and attention to detail that they put into every phase of the cabinet making process.

Check out this slide-show of the process from logs to finished kitchen and bathroom cabinetry.
