Kitchen Transformation
_ Scott & Julie loved their home – considering that they had it built 15 years ago on a limited budget. The challenge was now it felt like a plain, symmetrical kitchen without the modern style they desired. The standard 30” upper cabinets were boring & produced an abundance of wasted space. Their narrow breakfast bar was only used to collect clutter and the island layout was not conducive for entertaining. The stove area was poorly lit, not centered in the kitchen & too far from the sink.
One major challenge for both our designer and production department was working with the already installed new wood flooring. The new cabinetry for the island could not change from the original footprint of the island. The built-in refrigerator exposed some areas needing additional flooring and the production crews had to be extremely careful not to scratch or gouge the flooring throughout construction and especially during the installation of the cabinets.
Another obstacle was re-working the existing duct-work to accommodate the new location of the range hood over the new cook top that was moved to be more in line with the center of the kitchen.
The extraordinary design for their kitchen made the most of their vaulted ceiling. Clear Alder custom cabinetry with 42” upper cabinets at staggered heights provided the additional cabinet space. The exposed range hood presented a dramatic focal point as well as a break in the long wall of upper cabinets.
The island was enlarged to simulate a stunning buffet-style credenza.
Beautiful plants and stunning pot shelf accessories put the final touches on this magnificent kitchen.
